CHILE
Santiago de Chile
Santiago, the capitol of Chile, as seen from Santa Lucía hill

Plaza de Armas - what else! In Spanish-speaking countries of South America, every main city square bears this name!

Plaza de Armas is the best place to relax. In Santiago, there is even a small pavilion where enthusiastic chess players meet for an afternoon game.

The Santa Lucía hill used to be occupied by a hermitage and later by a military fortress. Today, only one single tower remains of the fort, but a beautifully decorated gate and nice staircase still welcome visitors to this nice hill park.

The pedestrian zone in the center of Santiago is filled with little open-air cafes, many of which sell great ice-cream. The best ice-cream in the world, we dare to say. Yummy! There were many delicious flavors to choose from and we tried at least three a day!
Valle del Maipo

Plaza de Armas in the small town of San José de Maipo. San José is about 60km east of the center of Santiago, in the foothills of the Andes.
