Tokyo - city architecture

Tokyo had a difficult history. The great earthquake of 1923 and US aerial bombing of 1945 ensured that almost all of the city had to be rebuild in the 20th century. The architecture is quite mixed, but there are some nice houses and pleasant wide streets.

Asakusa is one of the areas reminding visitors of what the old Tokyo used to be like.

Hanami - Shinjuku park

Hanami is a spring festival of viewing Sakura (cherry tree) blossoms.  On a nice day, entire families gather in the parks, sit under the trees, have picnic and enjoy the blossoms. Unfortunately, we had a rainy day. But the it was still spectacular to see these trees totally covered in blossoms in the beautiful settings of a Japanese garden.

Tempura restaurant

In a tempura restaurant guests sit around a short counter and watch how the chef cooks pieces of fish, see-food, prawns and vegetables in non-grease butter.

Our waitress was dressed in a traditional Japanese cloth.
